Dear OCWA Customers,
OCWA—Central New York’s Water Authority—has begun a proactive initiative to identify the type of material used to construct customer water service lines throughout our five-county system.
It is important to understand that ownership of water service lines is shared between homeowners and OCWA. OCWA owns the line from the water main under the street to the “curb box” on your property line. Customers are responsible for the line from the curb box to the water meter or main shut-off valve inside your home, as well as all of your home’s internal plumbing and fixtures.
We are asking all OCWA customers to conduct a brief test of your water service line to determine its construction. Click here for a pamphlet which explains the process for conducting your test.
Once you have your results, you can return them to OCWA in one of three ways: 1) filling out the perforated slip on the enclosed tri-fold and returning it in the postage paid envelope; 2) calling our automated test results service line at 315-671-5002; or 3) entering the results at www.ocwa.org/testresults. Please include your account number which is listed at the top of this letter.
Any customer with a service line made of lead (as confirmed by OCWA) will be offered a free water test to determine whether lead exists in your drinking water.
If you have a question about the testing process, please call OCWA’s Customer Service department during business hours (8 am – 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday) at 315-455-7061 extension 3335 and our staff will be glad to assist you.

Thank you for your assistance.
