OCWA — Central New York’s Water Authority received two top awards at the New York Section of the American Water Works Association (NYSAWWA) 2024 New York Water Event in Saratoga Springs, New York.  The New York Water Event is a four day drinking water conference that includes committee meetings and sessions, trainings, vendor displays, and regulatory agency presentations.  The conference has a large attendance of more than 900 water utility employees, vendors, and regulatory personnel.  OCWA received:

Best Tasting Drinking Water Award:  A competition is held to determine the Best Tasting Drinking Water in New York State.  A panel of judges conducts a blind testing and scores water samples from utilities across the state on several categories that include taste, odor, color, clarity, mouth fee, and after taste.  OCWA received First Place in the competition – the second year in a row to receive the recognition.  This year, it was water from OCWA’s Otisco Lake Water Treatment Plant that received the award.  Last year it was water from the Lake Ontario Water Treatment Plant. While our water begins with great sources, this award also recognizes the work our employees do in operating our treatment and distribution facilities each day.

Safety Award:  OCWA received the 2024 Safety Award, which is presented to a water utility that shows outstanding initiative in the area of safety and injury prevention.  This award reflects the commitment that all employees make to safety while on the job.

Top Ops Competition:  The Top Ops competition is a “Jeopardy” style competition of teams of water operators from around the state.  The teams compete by answering questions related to the operations of a water system. The OCWA Team placed second in the competition.

Our members represent the very best of New York’s water industry and together we are working tirelessly to maintain the safety and resiliency of the state’s drinking water systems and to support the continued education and development of our essential water workforce.”
