Source Water Protection Week is being celebrated nationwide from September 24-30, 2023.  OCWA — Central New York’s Water Authority – invites the community to help spread the word about the importance of source water protection.

Even though we recognize this week, OCWA’s team is committed to preserving source water year-round through various initiatives.  These include a yearly agricultural and residential watershed protection program that involves surveying and inventorying all properties within the watershed.  OCWA also helps support the Onondaga County Soil and Water’s agricultural protection efforts, as well as work with local, state, and federal agencies in various capacities from enforcement to funding and planning protection efforts.

Protecting sources of drinking water is an effective way to reduce risks to public health, increase customer confidence, and control water treatment costs.  Educational resources and materials can be accessed on the American Water Works Association’s website (link below).
