Help OCWA continue to be proactive in providing you with the safest drinking water

OCWA – Central New York’s Water Authority – is continuing its proactive initiative to identify the type of material used to construct customer water service lines throughout our five-county system. Compiling this inventory will soon be a requirement of the revised Federal Lead and Copper Rule.

It is important to understand that ownership of water service lines is shared between homeowners and OCWA. OCWA owns the portion of the service line from the water main under the street to the curb box located at the property line. Customers are responsible for the portion of the service line from the outlet side of the curb box to the water meter or main shut-off valve inside your home, as well as your home’s internal plumbing and fixtures.

We are asking all OCWA customers to conduct a brief test of your water service line to determine its construction material. The process of inspection is explained below:

Once you have your results, you can enter them at http://www.ocwa.org/survey . Please include your account number when completing our survey.

Any customer who completes the brief survey will receive a $5 credit on their next bill and be entered into a random drawing to win one of five (5) $100 VISA gift cards. If you fail to provide your test results to OCWA, we will be required to visit your home at a future date to conduct the test.

If you have any questions about the testing process, please call OCWA’s Water Quality Department during business hours (8 am – 4pm, Monday through Friday) at 315-455-7061 EXT. 3157 and our staff will be glad to assist you.
