OCWA–Central New York’s Water Authority–has begun construction on its last section of transmission main to loop Oneida Lake, in the Towns of Constantia and Vienna running west to east along State Route 49, Martin Road and Hallenbeck north of Oneida Lake.
The project involves installing 13,528 feet of new 16″ ductile iron (DICL) water main via traditional open-cut trenching installation and 1,215 feet of 18” high density poly ethylene (HDPE) main via directional drilling trenchless installation (used to not disturb wetlands, protected stream beds, etc.).
Construction activities associated with all water main projects are fluid, but the following is a rough schedule for the project:
April – Complete directional drills
May – Lay watermain and tie-into drills
June – Testing/health approval, install air relief valves, control pit
July – Clean up – project completion
Our foremost concern is the safety of residents and our working crews. As we advance in enhancing the water quality to the area, we ask that residents be vigilant to continuously changing conditions.
Both our contractor D.E. Tarolli and OCWA appreciate the patience of affected residents during the construction phase. We will provide additional updates as the project progresses. Please direct any questions to sjdrake@ocwa.org.
