OCWA customers residing in North Syracuse, specifically those living on Chestnut Street and immediately adjacent streets, may experience cloudy or discolored water the week of October 7th due to filling and flushing of new water mains being installed in the area.

The filling and flushing of the new water mains requires a larger than normal volume of water to flow through the new mains, as well as existing mains connected thereto.  The existing mains are older cast iron pipes and higher flows sometimes cause discoloration of the water.  This occurred on the afternoon of October 7, which resulted in OCWA flushing hydrants to clear the water.  The flushing of the new main will be continuing throughout the week and thus there may be additional incidences of discolored water.

OCWA has provided notices directly to residents in the construction zone explaining the project and discussing the potential impacts associated with it.  If residents experience cloudy or discolored water, they should run their cold water tap for several minutes to clear the issue.  If the issue persists, residents are welcome to contact OCWA at 315-455-7061 ext. 3141 or 3157.  Affected residents also can check our website at www.ocwa.org for periodic updates on the project.

We appreciate the patience and understanding of our valued customers as we work to replace these sections of old cast iron mains and thereby improve our water system.
