OCWA is in the process of replacing approximately 11,000 feet of 12 inch water main along the Route 5 corridor in the Village of Canastota/Town of Lenox.
The current water main has had numerous breaks due in part to its location within the driving lane of Route 5. Water main breaks cause damage to this busy road, long traffic delays and are difficult to work on due to the location of the current main in the roadway.
The new project will install a 12 inch water main further back off the road to alleviate these problems in the future.
The Route 5 corridor project is the largest and most technically difficult project OCWA has undertaken this year, and in the end will provide better water service for the 100+ customers encompassed by the project area.
OCWA is performing its work in conjunction with the New York State Department of Transportation and is cooperating with the Town of Lenox and Village of Canastota to minimize project impacts to the maximum extent possible on local residents.
