An industrial fire between the Thruway and Interstate 690 is currently causing low water pressure for OCWA residents living in Van Buren.
The chemical fire is at Syracuse Heat Treating at 7055 Interstate Island Road, Van Buren. As of July 6 at 3:30 pm, OCWA is supplying upwards of 10,000 gallons of water per minute to fight the blaze.
The smoke is black and visible before the State Fair Boulevard exit of I-690.
At least three Syracuse Fire Department firetrucks are on the scene, including a hazmat truck.
OCWA is diverting as much water as possible to the area in order to fight the blaze. As a result, some OCWA customers may experience low water pressure or discolored water. These conditions will return to normal after the fire is extinguished. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
