Stop and Think Before Connecting Online

Did you know that there were “over one million web attacks against people each and every day in 2015”? As we continue to embrace the conveniences of connecting to the Internet on the go, it’s important to protect your information on all of your electronic devices.

Being more aware of cybersecurity risks and taking a few simple steps can make a big difference in our overall online safety. That’s why OCWA, Central New York’s Water Authority has joined the Department of Homeland Security’s Stop.Think.Connect.™ Campaign. Stop.Think.Connect. is a national public awareness campaign aimed at increasing the understanding of cyber threats and empowering the American public to be safer and more secure online.

Cyberspace touches nearly every part of our daily lives. It includes the broadband networks beneath us and the wireless signals around us, the local networks in our schools and hospitals and businesses, and the massive grids that power our Nation.

In our professional and personal lives, as well as in our communities, we depend on the Internet and its vast system of networks to perform daily functions. However, as technology advances, so do the techniques cyber criminals use to gain access to our computer networks.

This new partnership will provide OCWA, Central New York’s Water Authority with tools and resources to educate our customers across the five-county territory that we serve about safer online practices. Whether you are at work on the company network, at home, or on your smartphone, you have a responsibility in creating a safer Internet.
