May 2012 The Onondaga County Water Authority is pleased to provide its customers and consumers with the Authority’s Annual Water Supply Statement and Consumer Confidence Report for the year ending December 31, 2011. Throughout this report readers will be able to find useful information specifically related to OCWA as well as information related to water in general.
During the course of 2011 OCWA made significant progress wrapping up major water quality related projects. By the end of the year the formerly uncovered finished water reservoirs in the Towns of Van Buren and Manlius were off line and replaced by covered concrete water storage tanks designed to protect and enhance overall distribution system water quality. Additionally the final items related to the Otisco Lake Water Treatment Plant and Intake improvement projects were completed. With the new systems in operation throughout the year the plant experienced increased operating efficiency and enhanced water quality.
Additionally, the new West Hill Water District pump station construction project was well underway by the end of 2011 and the facility was placed in service early in 2012. The new pump station allows OCWA to now provide customers of the water district with treated water from the Otisco Lake Treatment Plant. During the latter part of 2011, OCWA also began design on improvements and upgrades for the Southern Branch distribution system. The project involves work on the systems two large pumping stations that supply water to the south of Syracuse. Both stations are being upgraded with more energy efficient pumps, motors, electrical controls and enhanced emergency generating power. Once completed the project will allow for more efficient, reliable, and cost effective service to the customers connected to the Southern Branch system.
