Manager. The ideal candidate should have the
qualifications and experience to manage the planning,
design, construction, maintenance, and inspection of
water system projects. Able to manage technical
engineering staff and customer relations on projects.
Candidates must have a B.S. in civil engineering and
6 years of professional-level civil engineering
experience with 2 years in the design and
construction of public water systems. Demonstrated
communication skills and a NYS PE license are
required.

The Onondaga County Water Authority has a position
open for a full-time Risk Manager at our Northern
Concourse location. This is a competitive civil
service job title.

The responsibilities of the Risk Manager include
implementing, managing, and coordinating programs
relating to occupational safety and health, claims,
and insurance. A professional level position which
requires planning, organizing, actuating, and
evaluating risk of loss coverage programs to protect
properties, physical assets, and human resources from
loss.
Typical work activities include managing a
comprehensive employee occupational safety and health
program along with planning and implementing programs
in order to limit risk of loss to properties, physical
assets, and human resources. The position will
interface closely with the Human Resource
Administrator and safety/security staff.
Skills necessary for this position include good
knowledge of principles and practices of risk
management and asset protection. Ability to interpret
and evaluate statistical data. Ability to supervise &
guide. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
Ability to travel between work sites and locations.
Physical condition commensurate with the demands of
the position.
Minimum qualifications for the Risk Manager are:
A.
Baccalaureate degree and three years of professional
level work experience or its part-time equivalent, in
developing and implementing programs for occupational
safety and health or in the administration and
processing of health insurance, property, casualty,
fire, disability or workers compensation claims; or
B. Seven years of professional level work experience
or part-time equivalent, three years of which must have
been professional level work experience as outlined in
A.
Selection of the candidate will be made from
canvassing the civil service list once established.
The Onondaga County Water Authority is a civil service
agency under the jurisdiction of the Onondaga County
Department of Personnel. Hiring is in accordance with
Onondaga County and New York State civil service
regulations.
Many of the positions at OCWA are "competitive," which

Onondaga County Department of Personnel and appear on
an eligibility list derived from the examination.
